Le Bêta-Testeur
The artistic design is extraordinary.
An enchanting soundtrack
Fights that will give you the freedom to do what you want.
A complete, complex, and immersive scenario
Be who you want, how you want!
Thrilling narrative with choices that matter
Wonderful, well-written companions
Combat that can be tailored to your style
High production values, with stunning visuals and audio
Satisfying pacing, with smart quality-of-life features
Great exponent of role-playing. A lively
bright
well-developed world
full of things to do. Artistically beautiful. Versatile and fully customisable combat.
Some aspects such as character faces could be improved. The stories and development of the companions are rather flat.
Looks and runs great on console
Excellent Writing and VO
Satisfying combat and traversal
Your choices shape nearly everything
A full narrative experience with little padding
An accessible entry point to the broader Pillars of Eternity universe
Some very geeky role-playing game moments
Amazingly fluid and liberating combat systems
Great companions, especially ride-or-die Kai
A lot of the "deeper" role-playing ideas are pared back in favour of the action
Limiting upgrading and crafting to Party Camp is an annoyance
Some supremely dated looking character models, and a forgettable orchestral score
... you always complete all the side missions first before continuing with the main story.
... motivates you to search for hidden treasures in the long term.
... you enjoy real-time combat from a first-person perspective and trying out many weapons.
... you are expecting a realistic world simulation like in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
... you never leave the main path and always ignore the branches.
... a staging worthy of a movie is a must for you.

+
Immersive first-person view coupled with a stunning spin on Eora's diverse regions
+
Emotionally charged, well-written companions with striking personalities and impactful input
+
Intricate lore to uncover and mysteries to solve while engaging in fun, fast-paced combat
-
A forgettable companion combat system that often feels unnecessary
-
Lack of more fleshed-out cinematics and minor quality-of-life misses like map markers
The Living Lands is a beautiful, diverse place that's a joy to explore
Combat is easy to grasp and provides a ton of variety
Characters, world-building, and even the story are all engaging
There's a lot to see if you take the time to look for it
Performance can dip in some areas and bugs are still present
Player influence outside of quests can feel limited
Character progression can feel a little slow
Rich, fascinating lore
The Living Lands are a great setting
Compelling storytelling that works in strong choice and consequence mechanics
Great cast of well-written and well-voiced characters
Fun, impactful combat that enjoys constant experimentation
Lost of weapon variety
Tight and intricate level design constantly encourages exploration
A surprising amount of optional content, from secrets to side quests and more.
Disappointingly straightforward progression mechanics
Some might be disappointed by how safe it plays things.
A very good scenario that evolves with our decisions.
Companions with endearing personalities
Visually very successful
Well thought-out classroom management that allows you to have a finger in every pie while remaining effective.
A content provided and a story that always makes you want to learn more.
Some movements and facial expressions well ?frozen?
Living lands lack a bit of life to offer a more convincing immersion.
Comrades-in-arms who struggle to help you
A soundtrack that lacks an "epic" side
Varied and dynamic combat system
Attractive and colorful graphics
The world of gaming invites exploration with many mysteries.
Dialogues primarily well-written and of high quality, but only dubbed in English.
Five levels of difficulty (adjustable at any time)
Comfortable fast travel system
Recording at any time is possible in practice.
Decisions determine the course of the quest and the story...
... even in limited quantities
Strong need for side quests
Difficulty level generally unbalanced and tends to be a bit too difficult in "Normal" mode.
The Living Lands are a great setting built on strong foundations.
?Quality over quantity? approach to areas and side activities.
Satisfying main plot with intelligent twists.
The writing behind characters and quests is fantastic across the board.
Weighty, fun combat no matter your weapon of choice.
Strong audiovisual presentation.
Good performance and overall technical polish on PC.
Too many secondary choices don?t have a noticeable impact on the world.
Missed chances to make the areas feel more ?alive? and less static.
More control over the party members would?ve been nice.
Grindy, discordant item/enemy tier system.
Few opportunities to avoid combat encounters.
Five levels of difficulty (modifiable at any time)...
Recording at any time is possible in practice.
Comfortable fast travel system
Decisions have consequences...
Diverse gaming world with thoughtful architecture
Much to discover
Well-written dialogues
Versatile and dynamic combat system with appropriate tactical depth.
Detailed and high-quality technical graphics
Successful graphic style with a superb design of world and enemies.
On Xbox Series, there are two graphical modes (quality and performance)
A great vision and short loading times
Some CGI cinematics
Very good English speakers
Effects often rich
Harmonious soundtrack
... but too difficult for "normal"
... even if rarely profound (and sometimes unconvincing)
High pressure for exploration and side quests
The progression of the character is generally very laborious.
Small performance weaknesses in quality mode
No German voice
Plot, choices and consequences of a very large role-playing game
Exceptional level design
Unique and carefully characterized setting
Writing at a very high level
Very limiting progression system
Monotonous combat system
Really a lot of bugs, even "game breaking"
Animations, dubbing, underlying interfaces
Unexpected excellent design level
Stunning world building
Well-integrated choice system in the story
The main plot may seem too diluted.
System of experience too slow
Fashion in third person to forget
Uneven balance in the choice of weapons and classes at times
A narration that is always excellent
A universe of unimaginable richness
Captivating main story
Successful companions history
Replayability of the game
Outstanding OST that perfectly fits the game.
Sometimes useless companion
Gameplay suffers from its age
Rough and complex inventory
Great battle system
Intruiging story with deep dialog
Pillars of Eternity fans will be delighted
Beautiful visuals
Classless role-playing system
Lacks depath in role-playing elements
World lacks that feeling of being "alive" with empty cities and NPCs with zero reactions
Imbalanced difficulty
Huge world but mostly not worth exploring
Beautiful and unique artistic direction
Fun fight
The main characters are charismatic and interesting.
It is a good RPG for those who do not like RPGs.
Combat with little diversity
Cliché story
Not much variety to create constructions
Fairly simple loot system
Enemies "damage sponge"
Obsidian avoids the pitfall of gigantism
Very liberated character construction
Craftsmanship and scaling are intelligently intertwined.
Four companions in writing (almost) without frills
Artistic direction inspired (especially in Brisescarpe)
Enchanting soundtrack
Spot-on voice casting
A simple yet effective story
Integrated glossary
Excessive simplification of certain mechanics
Limited interactivity with the environment and NPCs
Protagonists (too) friendly faced with moral dilemmas
Obvious technical flaws
Visually, it looks great. Beautiful variety in biomes. Satisfying combat. Evolving classes, never static. A game that rewards exploration. Carefully crafted writing. Seductive soundtrack.
A game with inconsistent proposals A frozen world Ultra rigid animations Completely inert NPCs Extremely limited interactivity with environments Zero staging The art direction is too colorful for my taste The third person view is poorly adapted to the game No French version
Obsidian highlights its expertise in world-building, storytelling, and overall game design.
The Living Lands do not exceed in size and are under the control of the player.
The first-person melee (and magic) gameplay works satisfactorily to a certain extent and certainly better than the vast majority of similar titles.
RPG elements such as level, upgrades, and companions remain very basic.
The design of the models has something of the first semester in a graphic design school.
Elements such as the party camp, numerous lines of dialogue, and many side quests give an impression of haste.
The battle would have been much better if it had been less chaotic.
Hilarious scenarios regularly, whether due to glitches or not.
In terms of freedom of approach, regardless of the final impact, no mistake.
The diversity of weapons and skills allows for unique gameplay styles.
Many technical problems on the computer, such as crashes and freezes.
Graphically inconsistent and could be improved in terms of performance.
Very often boring missions
Choices often turn out to be less impactful than one would expect.
Beautiful environments and surreal vistas
Responsive, punchy combat, and battle spells with a lot of options and play styles
Satisfying exploration and parkour
Decently sized biomes
Being a jerk without consequence is kind of amusing
Has all the aesthetic characteristics of recent horrible corporate products that are made by activists who hate their consumers
Extremely limited roleplaying and sloppy character animation
Empty, unconvincing world without interactivity
No activities like fishing or mini games
Unbearbly trite "going native" and anti-colonialism plot
Stratified and varied combat
Eora and the Living Lands are fascinating and in-depth.
Many dialogues and choices that influence part of what happens.
Included in the Game Pass!
It lacks the typical freedom of other Obsidian RPGs.
Discordant and somewhat dated graphic style
Resource depletion on PC
Incredibly Fleshed Out Lore and Engrossing Story
Plenty of Dialogue Choices for All Your Roleplaying Needs
Choices DO Matter
Loot and Crafting System are Great
Combat is Fast and Furious, with Great Versatility
Enemy Variety is Lacking
Bugs and Performance Issues
The story is full of twists and turns
The scripted side quests
The enchanting and colorful biomes
The possibilities of choice and their consequences
Exploration
The dialogues are sometimes amusing.
The passivity of NPCs and wild animals
The camera is fixed during dialogue phases.
The lack of immersion in open areas
A very good technical optimization, at least on PC.
few pleasant bugs
Beautifully designed environments
Attractive art design
Exploration is rewarded
Successful story
Dynamic combat system
no opponents on the scale
Perspective in the first and third person
No German dubbing, only subtitles.
A somewhat thin equipment system
Knowledge of the Pillars universe is an advantage.
Innovative ideas are rather rare.
Representation of characters in the dialogues is rather mixed and static.
