The skateboarding itself is fantastic, offering a real sense of control and achievement once you get over the learning curve
Strong audio design, particularly that of the skateboard on different surfaces
Freedom (within the maps) to do whatever you want within the bounds of skateboarding.

However, it is lacking many maps and some aren't the best for skateboarding, not offering much in variety.
Quite difficult and unapproachable, requires a lot of patience and effort to get used to.
Maps are barebones and, sadly, completely empty. The game feels sterile and lifeless.
A complete lack of objectives, paths or any guidance leaves the game feeling, well, like it isn't actually a game
Simply put, Skater XL is unfinished.
