reviewed at 07/07/2023 - Test AEW: Fight Forever Video ? Be Elite [read the full review on COGconnected]

Deep Story Mode with Replay Value
Exploding Barbed Wire Match
Accurately Handcrafted Wrestlers Look Impressive
Mediocre Visuals

Lots of minor details
Simple to learn but difficult to master
Branching career mode
Lots of things to unlock
Great roster.
Mid-tier graphics
No ability to download community creations
Few tag teams.

A large number of gameplay modes are on offer.
Road To Elite changes up enough about the between-matches section of career modes.
A distinct feeling to a large number of those on the roster.
Inter-gender matches.
Despite the mini-games offering something different, they don't pose much depth in themselves.
Difficulty and accessibility could use some depth.
Some very Jimmy Hart-style of off-brand themes.

Very enjoyable to play
The mini stories of the campaign mode
The audio track
Lack of content in creation mode
A poorly chosen and far too small roster.
Lack of fluidity during grip movements.
Almost no dubbing

Decent character creation suite
Road to Elite is a fun journey that has plenty of replay value
Feels like a base building block for the next game
No "Pros & Cons" find for this reviewer.

Wears its No Mercy inspiration on its sleeve
The mini-games were a nice surprise
Some nice nods to AEW?s brief but storied history
As a ?story? mode, Road to Elite is forgettable
Momentum feels a little unbalanced
Cheap losses in fatal four-ways felt out of my control

Road to Elite is old school goofy fun
Packed with character and detail
Controllers are super easy to learn
The AEW-specific matches are a blast
A lack of match types
The occasional hit detection issue
Tutorials are lacking

A team filled with skilled fighters.
The Road to Elite mode is light in terms of story, but the management mechanics are fun.
All the crazy fights that AEW organizes, like the explosive barbed wire match.
Jukebox mode during fights, with numerous tracks.
Defense controls can be frustrating.
Superficial creation modes, with few options.
Uninspiring Road to Elite mode.

Very good online with zero input lag.
Fun modes like the violent Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match
Fairly poor staff
Price too high for the offer proposed.

A good variety of match types are enjoyable
Road to Elite?s story mode is very similar to classic wrestling games
The commentary is extremely limited
Mini-Games lacks excitement

A staggering amount of fantastic, frantic fun
+
Larger-than-life character models and crackerjack weapons
+
Road To Elite flies by, welcoming repeated playthroughs
Shallow roster lacks names such as Samoa Joe and Toni Storm
-
Naughty DLC policy is a massive missed opportunity
-
Lacks the polish and depth of WWE 2K23, such as commentary

Small yet important gameplay features
Yakuza-inspired career mode is cool
Needs a bigger roster
Combat can be clunky
No "Pros & Cons" find for this reviewer.

Some ridiculous match types and weapon options
Story mode is short but entertaining
Its No Mercy inspiration is clear
Only four wrestlers on-screen at once
No Mercy fans will moan that it doesn't feel quite the same

Interesting Game modes
Arcade-like gameplay and graphics
Options to create wrestlers and arenas
Matches feel empty without commentary

Wrestlers look and feel authentic.
Captures the essence of the N64 classic wrestling games.
Foundation is there for an excellent game.
You?ll see everything the game has to offer in a couple of hours.
Wrestler entrances only seconds long.

Mini-games and recreational activities are able to break the rhythm and provide a fair amount of variety.
This is a solid foundation on which to build the next chapters.
The storyline of the Road to Elite mode leaves much to be desired.
No "Pros & Cons" find for this reviewer.

Good character creator
Neat story mode
Lot of missing names on the roster (and not a lot of DLC)
Persistent loading (especially in handheld mode)
No "Pros & Cons" find for this reviewer.

The wide range of options and customization when it comes to deciding how you want your character to express themselves in the ring.
There is a wide variety of different types of battles and a lot of content to unlock just by playing.
In terms of physical expressiveness, the character creator is indeed much more limited when it comes to choosing movements.
The multiple delays have caused the championships and certain factions to become obsolete.

Captures the uniqueness of each wrestler
Fun party game
Lack of depth in career mode
Grinding

The battle is frantic and constant all the time.
Arcade style is making a comeback in wrestling.
The modes are insufficient and require more work.
Some performance issues.
Where is my photo mode?

The accessible creation mode...
The presence of a Story mode
Many variants, some of them quite hardcore.
The presence of nails and numerous weapons.
A complete online multiplayer with cross-play.
The possibility to transfer your PS4 backup to PS5.
... but limited in equipment.
Casting somewhat incomplete.
Technically really behind.
A shaky French translation
The entries are way too short.
The training mode needs to be reviewed in its form.
